Journal #6

July 8-12, 2013
Dear Journal,

“Mathematics expresses values that reflect the cosmos, including orderliness, balance, harmony, logic, and abstract beauty.”
Deepak Chopra

This week, we had a long quiz and tackled Logarithmic Function.

The long quiz is not that easy. I think my answer in number 3 in the Problem Solving is wrong because instead of using 4 years, I made use of 2 years. Careless, indeed. I wish my score would be high because the quiz is really challenging.

Logarithmic Function seemed easy. But sometimes it gets confusing. But all in all, it’s a great and exciting topic for me. I’m looking forward for more.

Dear Journal,

“If people do not believe that mathematics is simple, it is only because they do not realize how complicated life is.”
-         John Louis von Neumann

This week, our math teacher Ma’am Lalalyn discussed about Half-life and Inverse Function.

Half Life is easy. Especially when you understood it well and you know its formula. We had a quiz about this topic and the other applications of exponential functions. Luckily, I got 10 out of 12. For me this score is high enough. Because the quiz is so difficult that I am expecting a low score.

Inverse Function is easy but confusing. Easy because you can predict its inverse function. You’ll just have to check it if your prediction is correct. Confusing because when it comes with complicated functions, it’s hard to solve for its inverse function.

"Life is good for only two things, discovering mathematics and teaching mathematics"--Siméon Poisson

Last Week, Mrs. Lalalyn discussed about Applications of Exponential Functions. Specifically, Population Growth.

Application of Exponential Functions is easy but confusing. Why confusing? Because the formulas and variables are hard to pinpoint. Like P and Po. But all in all, the topic is enjoyable and fun.

Math Journal -- June 16-21, 2013

June 16-21, 2013

Dear Journal

Last week, we tackled about Zeroes of Exponential Functions, The Graph of an Exponential Function and Applications of Exponential Functions.

So first, Zeroes of Exponential Function is quite easy. You'll just equate the function into zero. Then, solve for the x. For me, I think this is easy.

Second, The Graph of an Exponential Function. I think this topic is quite complicated. Because of the fractions in the Graph. Sometimes its hard to locate. I think this is easy, but still confusing.

Last but not the least, Applications of Exponential Function. This is confusing because of the formula. You'll just have a basic formula then you will derive the formula that will correspond with the given. At first, something goes wrong in the answer thar we got in one of the exanples. But I easily pointed out the fault in that example. The rate should be divided into two because it is said in the problem that it should be compounded SEMI-Anually.

That's all! :D

My Journal For June 10-14

June 10-14, 2013

Dear Journal,

Math, maybe is not what I think its supposed to be. I thought Math is hard and is the hardest subject that we will encounter in our high school life. But I guess, I was wrong. Because Physics is more difficult -laughs-. Kidding.

I think our topic, Solving Exponential Exponents, is easy. You'll just going to make the bases the same, equate the exponents, then solve for x. Sometimes, it becomes confusing when the bases of the two sides of the equation is complicated. It becomes difficult in making the bases the same. Sometimes, it is also difficult to check. But all in all, I Think It's easy. This topic is enjoyable! =)

Sincerely Yours,

Dear Journal,

Our math teacher, Ma'am Lalalyn, discussed about exponential functions. Exponential Functions seemed easy at first, but as the topic progresses, it became confusing. Specially in the signs. For example, (refer to the picture). As you can see, my answer is negative while the right answer is positive. I understand it now but Im still a  little bit confuse about it.

After discussion, Our teacher gave us a short quiz. I got 4/7. It's a shame, really (xD). I admit, I was careless. Specially in the last number. But even though, I got a low score, I think I understood the lesson. Its like recalling our previous lessons in our previous years, but still different. I learned new facts and actually enjoyed the lesson at the same time. I can say, our Math Class is Awesome!

Love,
